South Africa's most innovative in Mineral Beneficiation

Mineral beneficiation

Amava Alloys

The company has commenced building a plant at Brits in the North West Province of South Africa to process high value alloys such as Low Carbon based Ferro-chrome, Ferro-manganese and Ferro-tantalite amongst others.  Plant is expected to be commissioned in 4th quarter of 2018.

It’s Indian partner has well over 40 years of experience in Aluminothermy technology and was one of the large scale producers of exotic alloys in the world.

Amava Chrome

The company has two operation:

  1. North West Province (Western Bushveld) – this is an independent plant with both conventional gravity separation and magnetic solution. Amava is the first company in South Africa to utilise magnetic separation in the chrome industry
  2. Limpopo Province (Eastern Bushveld) – a dedicated operation for the secondary recovery of chrome from Glencore’s operations at Thorncliffe, Magareng and Helena operations. Glencore is the major chrome and ferrochrome producer in the world.

It’s Indian partner has well over 40 years of experience in Aluminothermy technology and was one of the large scale producers of exotic alloys in the world.

Amava’s operations are one of the most efficient recoveries in the industry by adopting a combination of technologies and processes and is able to recover Chrome concentrate from low yielding material.

South Africa has 70 % of the world’s chrome ore, therefore the opportunity to create value in the industry.

The company has established itself as a leader in the industry amongst independents, and has executed projects for most of the major miners, including Glencore Alloys, Hernic Ferrochrome and Afarak Group.

Acquisition portfolio

Obsideo Consulting and Construction

Amava has an interest in Obsideo, which provides engineering and management services to the mining and mineral industries. It is currently on an aggressive expansion trail offering “one stop shop” from feasibility, design, engineering, procurement, construction and management. This is an offering that has been lacking in the mining industry as these functions are offered by disparate companies with lack of accountability.

Mineral Zone

As Amava extends it’s offering in the alloys industry it has acquired an interest in Mineral Zone, a complete solutions company supplying the alloy industry from mine to furnace, from source to customer.  It services the Metallurgical and Mining sectors with a range of metals and minerals, ore and services.

It also caters for the refractory, ceramic, paint and plastics industries.
